TermulatorX is now available as a Mac OS X native application! No more “Classic” mode… No longer limited to Mac OS 9… This all-new version takes advantage of many of Mac OS X’s powerful features: plug-and-play USB devices, “Aqua” menus and windows, high speed graphics and so forth.

This version of TermulatorX can use any available RS-232 serial port to communicate with a Synclavier® Digital Audio System at speeds up to 38,400 BAUD. Typically a USB serial port, such as Keyspan’s USA-28X Twin Serial Adapter, is an ideal choice of hardware.

Note that the 2012 release is only compatible with Intel-based Macintosh computers running Mac OS X 10.6.8 (“Snow Leopard”), Mac OS X 10.7 (“Lion”) or Mac OS X 10.8 (“Mountain Lion”).
TermulatorX operates natively on both PowerPC and Intel Macs and requires Mac OS X 10.4.11 (“Tiger”) or later.
What is TermulatorX? The Synclavier® Digital Audio System was developed in the days when people used a “computer terminal” instead of a personal computer. Early computer terminals displayed text only; graphics-capable computer terminals were not readily available until the early 1980’s. The Synclavier® pioneered the application of computer graphics to music and sound production with several of its software modules using a Retrographics VT640 and later a Pericom MG600 computer terminal to draw waveforms, spectral envelopes and music notation.

TermulatorX is a software application that runs on your Macintosh computer. It interprets the “control characters” that are sent from the Synclavier® and creates an authentic VT 640/MG600 display in a Macintosh window. Check out a screenshot.

 

A free trial version of TermulatorX is available for download via our TermulatorX download link (1.7 MB). This fully functioning version lets you try out TermulatorX for 15 minutes. After 15 minutes TermulatorX stops responding unless a valid license code is entered. An activation license code can be purchased directly within TermulatorX for instant activation, or it can be purchased via e-mail from our Kagi On-Line Store. The cost of this license is US $ 50.00.
System Requirements: Versions of TermulatorX are available for any Macintosh computer with an available USB or RS-232 serial port running Mac OS X 10.4.11 (“Tiger”) or later (not yet tested with Mac OS X 10.8 “Mountain Lion”). A third-party USB serial port is typically used on a modern Macintosh computer that does not have a built-in RS-232 serial port. TermulatorX operates natively on both PowerPC and Intel Macintoshes and is distributed as a “Universal” application. Most USB serial ports also require the installation of a free serial port driver that is provided by the manufacturer.

This version of TermulatorX includes all the capabilities of the OS 9 version except for the “Network…” connection capability that was included with certain releases of our companion product “Synclavier® PowerPC™”. The “Network…” capability of Synclavier® PowerPC™ is best replaced by the use of a top-notch remote control software utility such as Netopia’s Timbuktu.
